Top 5 Hair Mistakes and Blunders
You can avoid most hair mistakes and common hair blunders if you just do one thing, stop! and ask a reputable hair stylist first. However with our everyday "fast paced" lifestyles, it is almost unavoidable that we all head down these "mistake-driven" roads at least once or twice during our lifetime. Some common mistakes are made without even knowing it. Let's face it, we all make hair mistakes, but some of the most common can be avoided with a little research. I am going to list some of the most common ones here. Of course this is not all of them, but in my experience the most common:
1. Cutting Your Own Hair.
Here's the usual scenario. You're in a hurry. You don't have an appointment with your favorite stylist and you doubt you can get one anytime soon. So you are tempted to trim it. "Just take a little off here, maybe there... I'll make it easy for you "don't self-cut". Just don't do it. Once you start cutting, it's hard to stop and impossible to keep your style even. This blunder can only lead to bigger problems.
2. Choosing the wrong Style
As we age, our faces/bodies change, and the hair style must mature with us. This doesn't mean that you have to choose something drab or old-fashioned, but it does mean that you have to be willing to "let go" of your tried-and-true lifelong style. Remember, that your style must fit your face and personality. Remember, Just because it is right for Paris Hilton, or Jessica Simpson, doesn't mean it's right for you. You should be candid and honest about your own facial features and age when choosing a style. Be honest with yourself.
3. Choosing the wrong Products
Many women will mis-diagnose their hair type and subsequently purchase the wrong hair products for their hair. Any reputable stylist will be able to help you choose the right hair products for your hair type. Consult with your Stylist. There are many outstanding products that you may not even be aware of.
4. Choosing the wrong Color
This is a big one, and may should be at number 1. Even though all hair colors are beautiful, they may not appear beautiful on you. So, when coloring or highlighting your hair, carefully consider which shades will flatter your skin tone. Bring a photo of the color you want to your stylist and discuss the tones and hues of the shade and how it will look on you. Don't color your entire hair again and again. By doing the entire hair repeatedly, the color can be uneven and the ends are over-porous. Try to apply the color only to the new growth of roots, spread the color through the rest of the hair just briefly (only a few minutes), then shampoo it out. Never perm and color on the same day--a few weeks in between is best. Tip: Women have known this for years, and I will pass it on to you: the older you get, the less you can get away with a hard, harsh color next to your skin.
5. Leaving Shampoo and Conditioner in your hair
Shampoo and conditioner if not thoroughly rinsed out of the hair is the worst culprit for bad hair days. Don't Leave shampoo and conditioner in your hair. Using a clarifying shampoo once a week will give hair a residue free fresh start.
There are several hair mistakes that we all commonly make again and again. We all make mistakes but they can be avoided. Usually with a simple phone call and consultation with your hair stylist, a lot of the most blunders can be thwarted That will save you a lot of "hair" regrets by itself.

How To Use an Eyelash Curler
Eyelash curlers are very useful tools because they help to emphasize you eyes, make them look brighter and beautiful without looking like fake eyelashes.
You will find different types of eyelash curlers in cosmetics shops and they range from plastic curlers, heated curlers to metal curlers. The best most efficient and easy to use these days are the heated curlers which come with batteries.
The eyes are very sensitive and I cannot stress how important they are so never apply your mascara before you curl your lashes, this is very dangerous practice and a lot of women do this as they assume that the mascara will make the lashes curl better, whether this is the case or not the fact remains that mascara is not meant to be heated. Also lash curlers should be positioned at the tip of the lash and not very close to the eye line.
Below are the 4 main steps associated with using a lash curler
1. Always make sure the curler is very clean before using it and never share your lash curler with someone else. A dirty lash curler can cause the eye to get infected with bacteria and you might end up with a red eye for days. On the other hand if you share your lash curler and the other person has an infectious eye condition you might contract it too.
2. Leave your eyelash curler to heat up for about 2 minutes (these days you will find eyelash curlers which use batteries so you do not have to go thru the trouble of heating your curlers with a hair dryer or hot water!) As a precaution check the temperature and make sure it is not too hot ( they usually have a cut out to prevent them from over heating), then position your upper lashes between the edges of the curler
3. Gently, carefully and slowly squeeze the edges of the eyelash curler together and hold for about 10 seconds. Gently release the curler from the lashes (make sure the curler is fully open), and repeat the process again until result is satisfactory.
4. you can now apply mascara by stroking your lashes upwards, never over load your mascara brush with too much mascara, always apply in one or two coats and always let each coat dry before the other is applied. Brushing your lashes with a lash comb after applying mascara will give a more natural look and remove any excess mascara.

How To Hide Dark Under Eye Circles
Dark under eye circles will happen to almost everyone i.e. men women and children at one time or the other irrespective of age. Dark under eye circles are also thought to be hereditary in some cases but most of the time the causes are quite simply manmade. Some common causes of under eye circles are, stress, excessive sun exposure, dehydration and poor circulation.
There are main routes to getting rid of dark under eye circles: you can camouflage them by using a concealer, treat them with under eye moisturizing products which contain vitamin E, Collagen, and Elastin and Alpha hydroxy acid or if you are plagued by chronic dark circles you can see a dermatologist and go for more aggressive treatment like chemical peels or laser resurfacing depending on how bad the situation is.
Discovering the cause of dark under eye circles and treating the cause will prevent the dark circles from returning (never use over the counter bleaching creams to try to get rid of dark under eye circle, use only prescribed medicines). If you want a quick temporary fix however you can use an under eye concealer (one that is a shade lighter than your foundation is the right colour). You want to make sure that when under eye concealer is applied it is applied correctly or else it will look very unnatural and can also have unwanted results. Below you will find how to apply under eye concealer:
· Select a dark under eye concealer that is a shade lighter than your foundation, you can also use a yellow corrector powder which is fantastic for bluish grayish under eye circles. Avoid oily concealers as they usually settle into fine lines and draw attention to the dark circles.
· Make sure the face is clean and if using a brush, puff or finger tips make sure they are all clean.
· Gently dab concealer under the eye using gentle circular motions, apply only a little concealer at a time then apply foundation. Always use a foundation after applying concealer. Never rub as this can cause swelling or redness.

Effectively Remove Skin Tags Forever
Skin tags are soft, flesh-colored growths that protrude out from the skin. Although skin tags need no medical attention, as they are usually benign, they are more bothersome because of cosmetic reasons. In addition, clothing can cause irritation.
Skin tags usually appear in mid-life, around the eyes, on the neck, and under the arms. They can be easily removed by your physician. The common procedures used at the doctors office are: tying them off to stop the blood flow, thus causing the skin tag to drop off, snipping or cutting the skin tag off at the base, lastly your physician may freeze it, much like you would a wart. However, because removing skin tags is considered a cosmetic procedure, chances are your health insurance will not pay for any of the above procedures.
The removal of skin tags can be easily done at home using the same procedure as your physician would. The “tying it off” procedure is probably the safest however it requires 5 to 7 days for the skin tag to fall off. The tying off method eliminates the blood supply and therefore the skin tag falls off.
The second procedure entails freezing the skin tag with liquid nitrogen. There are many products on the markets for removal of warts and skin tags using liquid nitrogen to freeze them off. However, because the store bought products are not that potent, they should only be used for small skin tags.
The last method of snipping or cutting them off sounds painful however it feels much like a pinch. This is the fastest remedy to remove skin tags. Care should be taken when using this procedure. Clippers should be sterilized and you should expect some bleeding. The simplest method to sterilize your clippers is directly over a fire. Be sure to let the clippers cool before using! Cut or snip the skin tag right at the base.
All of the remedies listed above are effective for removing skin tags however, there are instances where you may want the advise of a doctor. If the skin tag shows signs of changing size or color over time it could be malignant. Much like you would watch a mole or wart for changes, so it would go with skin tags. In addition, no matter what home remedy you use above; be sure to sterilize all equipment.

Inexpensive Homemade Skin Care
We all want a natural and glowing complexion. Nobody wants lines or wrinkles, or age spots or blemishes. This is evidenced by the amount of dollars spent every year on cosmetics and miracle creams and lotions. While the cosmetic industry would like you to believe that their product is the “one that works”, you can spend a lot of money finding one that truly benefits your particular skin type.
I know that when I walk into a store and shop for a skin care product, I am usually overwhelmed at the selection and the prices. I read the label and read their claims of “no more wrinkles” and “dramatically reduces the signs of aging”, etc., then I usually question if it really works. I don’t want to spend upwards of $30 and not see any improvement in my skin.
With that in mind, I set out to find a better and more cost effective skin care program. I t have come to the conclusion that homemade skin care is an inexpensive alternative. In addition, homemade skin care really works and as an added benefit, no animal testing involved!
Skin care recipes are easily customizable for each skin type. For instance, an oily complexion may want to add a little witch hazel (for its drying properties) to their toner mixture, whereas a dry skin type may add just a bit of Jasmine (moisturizes dry, stressed and sensitive skins and also helps to increase elasticity). The same theory applies to creating your moisturizers and exfoliation treatments. Each recipe is custom made to your liking. In addition the fragrances you decide to choose or blend are truly unique for you taste.
Some common ingredients used in skin are almond oil, aloe Vera, chamomile and green tea. Each of these ingredients brings with them unique characteristics. For example almond oil is a wonderful vegetable oil for dry skin. It is used as a carrier oil to blend with other essentials oils. In addition it is easily absorbed into the skin and is an excellent emollient. Aloe Vera stimulates skin cell regeneration and is also known for it healing properties. Chamomile tones all types of complexions. The anti-inflammatory effect of the essential oil applied topically improves skin regeneration, and a cold compress does wonders for puffy eyes. Chamomile is used in facial steams to reduce puffiness and cleanse the pores of the skin. Green tea a powerful antioxidant and a potent anti-inflammatory agent thereby reducing inflammation in the skin.

Hair Conditioners
Hair conditioners are Hair Care Products to be used after washing your hair with shampoo. They are known as Cream Rinses for Moisturizers. The very name indicates that it helps to retain the moisture in the hair. Hair Conditioners help to improve the texture and appearance of the hair. It also helps to improve the health of the scalp.
Various conditioners help to improve the texture and appearance of the hair in different ways.
The Moisturisers help to retain the moisture in the hair.
The Reconstructors strengthen it
The Acidifiers soften the scaly surface
The Detanglers coat the hair with Polymers
The Thermal Protectors give protection from heat (from blow drying)
The Chemicals in Glossers will give a shiny look to the hair surface.
The Oils help to condition the dry hair
The pack conditioners are very thick and are to be applied for a long time to protect the hair.
The leave-in conditioners can be applied to the hair after wash so as to leave a thin layer on the hair follicles.
The ordinary conditioners combine all the above aspects for normal hair and can be used daily.
The Hold Conditioners help the hair to retain the desired shape.
The Hair conditioners are made of 97 per cent Keratin (a protein). It contains negatively charged Amino Acids and Cationic Surfactants. The conditioners do not wash out completely because of the presence of Keratin.
The conditioners contain various oils or lubricants like fatty acids, panthenol or dimethicone. Some of the conditioners contain anti static agents to prevent static electricity, and sequestrants to help them work better in hard water. At times preservatives are added to conditioners to enhance its shelf life.
A typical home made hair conditioner can be made by mixing two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar or lemon juice with 8 ounces of water. Use it after shampooing. Positive change can be noticed in the appearance of the hair after the second wash.

The Health & Wellness Customer Service Disconnect
Last month, I was home from work recovering from a surgical procedure. As I was unable to sit up or really concentrate on anything substantive, I ended up watching daytime television. Most daytime television is targeted at women. What I noticed most during the programs I watched was the number of commercials for health & wellness products, including skin care products, weight loss products, cosmetics, and supplements. There were main two themes in all of these commercials: The products would all make you look and/or feel younger and were "all natural." What these ads did not say was how they worked, what ingredients they were made with, and why they would work.
Last week, I was in a large well-known bookstore standing at the "Information" desk seeking, shockingly enough, information. I needed to special order a book. Unfortunately, no one was at the desk. I looked around the area and could not find a single employee. This went on for five minutes. I eventually walked to the back of the store where I ran into an employee who grudgingly agreed to help, although he also pointed out that handling book orders was "not his job." By the time I found him both my patience and that of my three-year old daughter had worn thin. I eventually ordered the book, although the employee could not provide me with any information about when I could expect to receive it.
What do these two stories have in common? They illustrate a common theme that runs through the consumer's retail experience today, i.e., incomplete information and no customer service to provide it.
Given the fact that we are bombarded with information from every angle, it's ironic that health and wellness consumers are not readily provided with the information they need to make intelligent choices about the health & wellness products they purchase for themselves and their family. Try looking for the ingredients on that expensive jar of moisturizer you bought last month. Even if the ingredients are included on the jar, do you understand what they are and what effect they may have on your body? Good luck finding the answer.
Before the death of customer service, you'd simply ask the salesperson at the cosmetics counter. But as illustrated in my story, you'd have to find one first. And even if you find one, it's questionable if this person will be able to provide you with the answers you want.
So what are your options:
1. Educate yourself through your own research.
2. Find someone to provide you with the information.
The first option, while viable, requires something most people don't have - time. Time to research the products and their ingredients. Time to investigate whether the products are safe and do what they say they will. Time to determine if the products are indeed all natural.
If you don't have time to do the research yourself, your other option is to purchase your family's health and wellness products directly from a distributor and consultant who can not only provide you with the products you want, but can also provide you with what the retail market cannot, and does not provide readily, i.e. information about their products, including their ingredients, why they are safe, why they provide the benefits they promise, and why they truly are "all natural."
In addition to providing consumers with an education, such consultants also provide consumers with the type of customer service that demonstrates to the consumer that they are more than just a "sale," but a whole person whose health & wellness needs cannot be addressed by a "one-size-fits-all" marketing campaign. Such customer service provides the consumer with their own personal health & wellness consultant.
Where do you find such consultants? The best way is through the internet.
Look for companies that sell health & wellness products directly to consumers. These companies distribute their products through a network of independent consultants who are trained and educated not only in the products they distribute, but in providing excellent customer service. Such consultants will help you find the connection between the world of natural health & wellness products and customer service. Not only will you finally be an educated consumer, you will receive the customer service that you deserve.

There are as many types of hair as there are people on the planet. For those of us with curly hair, however, caring for our hair can sometimes be quite challenging. There are a million hair products that promise the moon to those of us who are blessed - or cursed - with curly hair, but all too often they don't deliver. Here, then, are five tips to turn troubled tresses into comely coifs.
1. Moisturize: The key to keeping curly hair healthy and manageable is moisture - and lots of it. When shampooing, make sure that you use a moisturizing shampoo. It will add much-needed hydration to naturally curly hair, Afro-American hair, or curly kids hair. Next, use a deep conditioner that will reconstruct damaged hair, and follow with a leave in conditioner and styling cream. The right combination of moisturizing products tames frizzy hair and kinky hair, and makes hair soft to the touch.
2. Shampooing: One of the biggest mistakes people with curly hair make is shampooing too often. This is particularly true for white moms who aren't familiar with caring for Afro-American or biracial hair. Ethnic hair care is as much an art as a science, but the rule of thumb is to shampoo about once a week. To keep hair fresh between shampoos, rinse it with warm water and apply a leave-in conditioner.
3. Styling Products: If you have frizzy hair or kinky hair, chances are that you're using styling products that are dehydrating. Most mousses, hair sprays, and gels strip away moisture, which is essential to maintaining manageable tresses and keeping hair healthy. If your curly hair is too wild, tame it with moisturizers and styling products that contain high quality ingredients and natural oils.
4. Hair Dryers: Stay away from blow dryers unless you want your naturally curly hair to turn into frizzy hair or kinky hair. Blow dryers can damage your hair and strip it of its natural oils and the oils you apply through the conditioning process. To keep your natural curls beautiful, always allow your hair to air dry.
5. Combing and Brushing: Tangles and curls seem to go hand in hand. To bring out the best in your curls, a wide tooth comb or pick is a must-have. If you're working with curly kids hair, separate it into sections. One section at a time, start at the bottom of the hair shaft and work your way up. Once you've completed a section, secure it a covered elastic hair band (not a rubber band!), and then move on to the next section. Remember that curly hair - particularly Afro-American hair - is very fragile, so take extra care when combing it. Avoid brushes, unless you use special detangling comb-brushes.
Naturally curly hair is gorgeous, and the trend in hairstyles is to let your natural curls shine through. Simply keep in mind that curly hair is as individual as its owner, and that the hair products you use can mean the difference between luxurious curls and kinky hair or frizzy hair. Once you find the hair products that are right for you, love and embrace your natural tresses.

How Botox Works to Smooth Your Wrinkles
You can add wrinkles to death and taxes on the short list of things that are certain in life. As you age, the supple skin of youth gradually gives way to fine lines around your eyes, across your forehead, and between your brows. The non-surgical wrinkle reducer BOTOX ® Cosmetic now lets you graciously decline encroaching wrinkles instead of accepting the frown lines of the over-30 crowd.
These treatments for the temporary reduction of brow wrinkles have been approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) since 2002. It is an extremely popular cosmetic treatment and over one million people have indulged in its face smoothing benefits.
To understand how BOTOX ® works, you need to understand how you develop frown lines. As years go by, your skin loses some of its natural elasticity and fails to bounce back from the movement and stretching that takes place as your facial muscles continually flex and release. This wear on your skin is evident in the fine lines that begin to form as early as your late 20s or early 30s when your skin stops returning completely to its smooth form.
How This Cosmetic Treatment Reduces Your Wrinkles
This agent is a protein obtained from the Clostridium botulinum bacteria. When small amounts of this protein are injected into muscle tissue, the nerve impulses to the muscles are blocked and paralyze the muscle. Because it is only used on small facial muscles around your brow, the paralysis is minute but the effect on the lines of your upper face is quite noticeable. Without the continual movement of muscles wearing on your skin, the skin has a chance to return to a smoother state.
After receiving a treatment, people usually see results within a few days and improvement continues to rise for the first month. The wrinkle reduction is typically visible for up to four months before the protein is cleansed from the body and the effect fades.
What Is a Treatment Like?
If you were to get a treatment, you would receive several tiny injections of the agent to the facial muscles around your brows. The process takes approximately 10 minutes and involves brief discomfort. The momentary pain of the injections can be reduced with the application of an anesthetic cream beforehand. The short amount of time needed for a wrinkle-reducing treatment and the absence of recovery time contribute to its rising popularity for cosmetic relief of wrinkles.

Injectables And You
As we age, our faces become wrinkled and creased after years of talking, eating, sunbathing and laughing. These wrinkles can make you look years older than your actual age... or they can give away your age when you feel decades younger. Injectables give everyone the opportunity to look years younger.
Fillers, inserted by a competent plastic surgeon, can fill in wrinkles and creases on the face and now even enhanced facial features, such as cheekbones or small chin weaknesses. Some acne scars also respond well. Perhaps the most popular procedure is lip enhancement.
Types of Injectables:
Injectable cosmetic procedures now use autogenous fat or alloplastic commercially available fillers, such as Radiesse, Restylane, Juvéderm and now Perlane. None of these fillers are associated with allergic reactions—immediate or delayed. Each filler has certain advantages and disadvantages. Your plastic surgeon will advise you as to the best choice to your particular issue. A plastic surgical consultation is a must to determine the correct filler and whether a filler will even give you the result you desire.
The Filler Procedure:
With the exception of fat, all of the commercially available fillers are ready for immediate use. Fat requires a harvesting procedure and injection usually done under anesthesia. Small 30 gauge needles are used, making the procedure almost pain-free. Injectable blocks or topical anesthetic creams can be used if necessary but usually aren’t required. Fillers give immediate results. Although swelling can occur, it is very quickly resolved. Makeup can be used after the procedure, and most normal activity can be resumed. Fat transfer is more arduous because of the donor site and the need for overcorrection. Fillers offer a very neat, relatively easy, cost effective way to enhance one’s appearance. These fillers now have long-lasting results, but they do diminish with time and need to be repeated. Again, it is important to have a complete consultation by a plastic surgeon to determine which filler, if any, is appropriate for you.

Hair Extensions -- Eastern Offerings Flaunted On Western Crowns
The unwavering and insatiable human desire for the attainment of flawless beauty has undeniably made cosmetology a billion dollar industry. In the Oxford Dictionary, vanity is defined as “conceit about one’s appearance or attainments.” Perhaps one could state that vanity is one of the primary motivators behind people altering their appearances synthetically. This raises an interesting question: have the morals and values of our society become as superficial and disingenuous as the plastic “props” paraded around by its constituents?
If a person feels frustrated about a certain physical attribute they simply have it altered -- less of course those “unfortunate” soles who cannot afford to do so. The covers of the latest digitally re-touched fashion magazines inspire the starry eyed masses to try and emulate the latest fads. Plastic surgery, liposuction, botox, teeth whitening, false eyelashes and hair coloring have become the fashion “accessories” of the 21st century.
Many people know that there is a certain level of deception involved; this however does not serve as any kind of deterrent in their pursuit of self-gratification.
In the early 70’s women started using hair extensions -- this in spite of the more conventional milieu associated with this era. Now the situation has drastically changed, with celebrities endorsing these products; even ordinary people want hair extensions because they’ve become trendy and popular.
All of this aside though -- the deposition on superficiality above has clearly made the point that this attribute is not “nice.” Wearing hair extensions, after all, is not all that presumptuous and in addition it’s not as though it were a permanent alteration … alright -- they can make you look simply fabulous as well.
There are several different products with varying procedures of appending the aforementioned extensions. Extensions offer extra length, volume and most importantly magnificent hair.
The strands of hair used to manufacture them are either synthetic or of authentic human origin. Genuine human hair extensions, as one would expect, are more costly due to the fact that they need to be treated with greater care during the production process.
Hair destined for the beauty industry is sourced from all over the world; interestingly enough though -- hair derived from India constitutes up to twenty percent hereof.
Hindus in the Southern part of India shave their heads in a sacred religious ceremony and offer the hair to lord vishnu at the tirupati temple. The hair is sold at auctions, mainly to China, where it is cleaned, fumigated and arranged in batches. Different companies buy the hair and it is distributed to different salons; with Hollywood being one of the largest patrons of this industry.
There are two basic options when considering extensions -- temporary extensions or more permanent extensions, the latter is applied to one’s own hair and may last a few months. Hair salons, selected stores and even the Internet offer clip-in hair extensions to consumers, but it is highly advised that only professionals apply permanent extensions.
The two major problems associated with permanent extensions are the exorbitant costs involved as well as possible damage to the user’s own hair. The customer base usually consists of older and wealthier clientele as one rarely sees twenty year olds who can afford these stylish hair accessories.
Maintenance is also an issue to consider; the permanent extensions are quite labor intensive and time consuming. In General clients are satisfied, although some sufferers of traction alopecia have reported serious complaints. Extensions applied with glue should be avoided; Great Lengths™ hair extensions have a technologically advanced application method and are very popular amongst celebrities, they are available at selected hair salons.
Clip-in hair extensions are much more practical, as they are affordable, easy to use and they are definitely not of inferior quality. These extensions are very popular for weddings, proms and practically any event that requires you to look glamorous and feel fantastically confident. Hairdo™ by Jessica Simpson and Ken Paves is a very popular new brand. One would be hard pressed to deny the fact that Jessica’s hair almost always looks spectacular, if not “divine”?
