Using Tea Tree Oil For Acne And More
Traditionally, it has been mainly used for afflictions of the skin. Tea tree oil is said to be very beneficial for conditions like athlete's foot, dandruff and acne. Today, so many personal products from shampoos to soaps to lotions contain tea tree oil and it is available all over the world as an essential oil. It is this oil that is added to commercial products.
Where did it originate? The tea tree grows wild in Australia and in certain parts of Asia where the local people brew it to make tea. It is this that has given it the name. Besides using it to make a beverage, the locals also used it in their medicine, especially to heal cuts and bruises on the skin. It is only very recently that the rest of the world has started to become aware of the many benefits of this herb. From something to heal wounds on the skin to treating acne and dandruff was a small step. The oil contains terpenoids which are compounds which fight both fungal and bacterial infections. This is why it is so effective in skin conditions. It has also been found to be very effective for athlete’s foot as well as other infections of the skin.
Of course, the original use is also being considered. Tea tree oil does heal cuts and injuries and especially among the aborigines and other locals, it is still used for this purpose even today. Its antiseptic qualities are also very good so it is used for yeast infections, lice and boils as well.
You can buy tea tree oil or products made from it at any supermarket or health store today. It is found in shampoos, ointments, creams, soaps and lotions. The pure essential oil, too, is available and can be used to heal any skin disease. You could even keep the essential oil and add it to shampoo to turn it into a dandruff shampoo or to cream to make it an acne-fighter.
Are there any other uses for tea tree oil? You can also use it as a mouthwash (in a diluted form) if you are suffering from an oral yeast infection or thrush. Make sure you don’t swallow any while gargling however as it could be poisonous when the concentration is high. It can also be applied to fungus on the toenail.
There are instances when people have showed a tendency to be allergic to this oil. Though rare, it would pay to look out for any itching or rash after you have applied it. The use of the oil must be discontinued if this happens. Make sure that the tea tree oil you are buying is from a reputed source so you know you are getting authentic stuff in concentrations that will be effective.
